Why Digital Quantum Reality?
This post is about the blog's title. So, why: Digital Quantum Reality? In fact, the words "Digital" and "Reality" refer to two of the main distinguishing features of the quantum mechanical model I have proposed. This model contrasts with existing models (or, interpretations) of Quantum Mechanics by virtue of several features.
Considering, for example, the entries of the comparison table in the Wikipedia's article on the Interpretations of Quantum Mechanics, here is how the proposed model can be described:
So, "Reality" in the blog's title clearly refers to the Realistic nature of the model. At the same time, the model is also Stochastic and Local(istic). However, I found that adding these adjectives too to the blog's title would make it too ugly. Sorry for that. I preferred the word "Digital" that, besides recalling those catchy concepts such a computer universe, describes the fact that the proposed model does not use any of the QM mathematical machinery pieces but only integers and rationals, derived from the previous, plus basic operations with these numbers that are, in fact, operations on probabilities. In particular, spacetime is inherently discrete. Particles evolve on a spatio-temporal lattice as the number of "iterations" of the model increases. Actually, the lattice has also the function of storing a kind of footprint of the each particle's passage and transmit it to the following visitors. In this respect, the localism (no spooky action at distance) mentioned above admits that quantum actions can be mediated by the lattice.
In future posts I will discuss each of the features above in a more detail.
Considering, for example, the entries of the comparison table in the Wikipedia's article on the Interpretations of Quantum Mechanics, here is how the proposed model can be described:
- DETERMINISTIC?: NO (It is Stochastic)
- WAVE FUNCTION REAL?: NO (No wavefunctions at all)
- UNIQUE HISTORY?: YES (part of Realism)
- HIDDEN VARIABLES?: YES (Actually, several)
- COLLAPSING WAVEFUNCTIONS?: NO (No wavefunctions at all)
- OBSERVER ROLE?: NO (part of Realism)
- LOCAL DYNAMICS?: YES
- COUNTERFACTURAL DEFINITESS?: YES (part of Realism)
- UNIVERSAL WAVEFUNCTION EXISTS?: NO
